This is an AU (alternate universe) set within the world of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Now, those of you who may not know (or care about) the show, just might be tempted to click the back button at this moment, but I really feel that's not necessary. You don't need to be interested in this show to be interested in this story. You just have to like the Backstreet Boys, and specifically my Nick & Kevin (although if you happen to be one who only likes SVU, there's no reason you couldn't be interested in this, either). They are not the "BSB" in this, but they do have similar relationships, and I found it quite fun to work in certain truths about them. But this Nick has his own history, and his own reasons for being the way he is, while the rest might still be quite similar to what you expect them to be, except they’ve all ended up in New York City and aren’t famous. Now, if you want to get an idea of the other characters I'll be playing with, you can click these links to get a tiny bio and see their pictures: Detective Elliot Stabler, Det. Olivia Benson, Det. John Munch, Det. Odafin “Fin” Tutuola, Captain Donald Cragen, A.D.A Alexandra Cabot, and Dr. George Huang. However, I don't think it's necessary to know who these characters are beforehand in order to understand the story, since I'll try to introduce you to them as it goes (that's how most stories go, anyway). There isn't a lot of back-history you need to know (that I won't tell you, anyway) regarding these "new" characters, you just might be interested in clicking those links to see what they look like. And to those of you who may be familiar with SVU, I am using Cabot over Novak because not only did I start the story when Cabot was still on the show, but Casey Novak bugs the crap out of me and I despise her character. At first I'd wanted to wait until I was "smart enough" to write something so involved. Something with such legal and psychological aspects. But I slept on it, and the ideas wouldn't stop rolling through my head. I know it’s not perfect, and some aspects might not actually apply to the show, or be exactly the way it might happen in real life, but I’ve done some research, and tried to be as accurate as what I know to be accurate. However, it is fiction, and it is not professional, so if you noticed some small detail that might not be the most accurate, please refrain from pointing it out, as that’s just how it needed to go. You just gotta accept it. "In the criminal justice system, sexually based offenses are considered especially heinous. In New York City, the dedicated detectives who investigate these vicious felonies are members of an elite squad known as the Special Victims Unit. These are their stories…" Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 This story was inspired by Nick and the relationship he has with Kevin in "The Assassin Trilogy". During a discussion at my message board over two years ago, the topic somehow got to Nick and Kevin in SVU, and what a possible plotline involving the two could consist of. And I was reminded of this adorable childish Nick. I think the relationship he has with Kevin is incredible, with some different, but genuine, expressions of their love, but with certainly questionable aspects. So then I thought--what if some outside force were to examine this? And that's how my idea developed. Which is not to imply that I’ve taken her Nick and Kevin--I have only used it as inspiration to form my own version of this relationship (no assassins, no graphic sex, and it's not particularly funny). As far as I know, besides the basic concept of being sweetly and apparently unknowing, my Nick is entirely different, especially in why he is the way he is. And my Kevin definitely isn't the same. Well, I don't even need to be saying this, really, because the story has an entirely different concept, and you'll see this as you read it. |
